Asia DairyTech – a new event for the dairy industry
MARCH 2008 – Asia DairyTech, the new conference for dairy processors based in the Asia-Pacific region and Indian subcontinent, comes to Bangkok next March.

The conference will assemble expertise from global suppliers and finished product manufacturers, maximizing the channels of communication between key decision-makers in the Asian dairy processing industry and providing access to the latest process, packaging and ingredient technologies. Keynote speakers will share their views on the latest trends and developments, and there is extensive time for both formal and informal networking and discussion.

We are launching Asia DairyTech along the same tried and trusted formula as our sister show Asia CanTech, and in our experience this type of conference has entirely positive feedback from delegates. The format is pretty unique, with suppliers sponsoring their customers over the three day event, allowing them to meet more dairy processors and to have more time together for networking.

Asia DairyTech is structured as an all-inclusive event, from 1-3 March 2009. All activities take place at the five star Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers in Bangkok. The format offers a unique atmosphere of professional presentations and table top exhibits, along with relaxed networking opportunities in luxurious surroundings.

We have chosen Thailand due to its central location in Asia, and we aim to attract dairy processors from the whole region including India, China and Australasia. Anyone who has attended conferences there will appreciate Bangkok’s rich blend of professional business facilities and exceptional cosmopolitan atmosphere – as well as excellent travel links and five-star hospitality.

We will shortly be launching a dedicated website with more information and online booking. If you would like to discuss any aspect of the show please do not hesitate to contact Neil McRitchie neil@bellpulishing.com

Asia CanTech takes to Thailand
APRIL 2007 - Progress is strong for our first standalone conference, Asia CanTech, which is being held from 7-9 October in Bangkok, Thailand. The conference will feature a number of workshops and a trip to the first aluminium TULC line outside Japan.

The technical conference features the opportunity for can makers and fillers from the entire Asia Pacific region to access the latest in efficient production technologies, while meeting the technical professionals that can help them optimize production. There is also plenty of time for informal networking and discussion.

“We really believe that this format provides the best way for both can makers and suppliers alike to get the most from the conference and meeting point,” says CanTech International’s publishing director Neil McRitchie. “We aim to provide a professional setting for the exchange of information and knowledge for the benefit of all present.”

The Asia CanTech Awards ceremony also takes place at a gala dinner to be held during the conference. For more information visit www.bellpublishing.com/asiahome.html

Relocation, relocation
NOVEMBER 2006 - Bell Publishing has moved! We remain in the historic town of Gravesend and are now just a stone’s throw from the River Thames. Our new address is The Maltings, 57 Bath Street, Gravesend, Kent DA11 0DF. Phone and fax numbers remain the same.

As its name suggests, the new building sits on the site of an old brewery, Russell’s Gravesend Brewery Ltd, which was registered in 1893. The Russell family sold the brewery to Trumans in 1931. It was used as a bottling and distribution site for many years, and was sold in 1975. Bath Street is so named because it was the main street leading to the Clifton Baths, built in 1930 and providing lavish facilities for river bathing.

Neil McRitchie says, “It is great to be surrounded so much history, particularly when our own journals are themselves associated with beverages and packaging. But despite all the history, we now have spacious, modern facilities where we can continue to produce quality magazines for our global readerships.”

CanTech's new editorial team
November 2006 - Bell Publishing is pleased to announce that Suzanne Christiansen is the new Managing Editor on CanTech International. She is joined by a new member of staff, Katrine Kjoeller, as Assistant Editor.

Suzanne joined the company as Editor on Dairy Industries International in 2005, and has 18 years experience in trade publishing. As she puts it, “Canmaking is a ‘new’ industry to me, but I have been involved in cans from the very beginning of my career.

“From the start, beverage cans played a role in my development as an editor – I was the assistant editor on Beverage World International fresh out of university. Went to InterBev in Las Vegas and drank far too much odd flavoured soda in cans. Spent a lot of time tracking the perpetual bunfight between Pepsi and Coca-Cola globally.

“Then, my first editorship was with American Ink Maker, and the issues of ink fly and laydown was a prominent feature of the title. I also encountered a very new phenomenon at the time, of thermochromatic inks on beverage cans. The natural progression had to be Metal Bulletin Monthly, where I served as North American editor.

“Now, after a foray into aviation and pharmaceuticals, I have landed back in the land of metals, a bit further downstream, and it feels like I’ve never left. Suddenly, I’m discussing tinplate and the challenges of printing at high speeds again. It’s a great feeling. I look forward to renewing old acquaintances and meeting my CanTech readers in the near future.” Contact Suzanne at suzanne@bellpublishing.com

Danish-born Katrine has been working as a freelance journalist since the birth of her daughter two years ago. She is keen to get back into the world of business publishing and to get to grips with cans! She can be contacted at katrine@bellpublishing.com

Food & Drink Technology covering the food industry
June 2006 – Spring and summer has been a very busy time for the team at Food & Drink Technology and with the imminent launch of a new supplement covering Food & Drink Nutraceuticals, editor Lynda Hewitt outlines the latest activities and events in the industry

The annual Campden Day for CCFRA members was highlighted by the 28th annual lecture presented this time by Sir Terry Leahy, chief executive of Tesco plc. The subject ‘Serving Customers’ highlighted the retail story from ‘source to on the shelf’, covering issues such as environment, fair trade, quality, sourcing and logistics. Our July/August issue will report the real issues that face the supermarket giant and although Tesco is the largest supermarket in UK with many interests abroad, the scenario is not an easy one.

The traditional open day for Leatherhead Food International was also a great success and well represented by scientists, technicians and food experts. The panel of speakers put across the message of quality and innovation throughout the industry and the problems of obesity, product recalls, and the salt, sugar and fat problems that still preside over product development for manufacturers.

Food & Drink Technology has responded to the leanings of the industry and is producing Food and Drink Nutraceuticals. This new supplement will sit alongside the October issue of Food & Drink Technology. It will embrace the news, commentary and analysis of the latest trends and innovations in the functional foods and nutraceuticals marketplace.

On the exhibition trail, Sial, the global food marketplace, opens its doors at Parc des Expositions Paris-Nord Villepinte. From 22-26 October the gourmet capital of the world will play host to over 5,200 exhibitors from 99 countries. The multi-specialist event will showcase foods across all the sectors including organic, diet and health foods and ingredients and additives.

A month later from 20-24 November the Emballage world packaging show coupled with the IPA food processing show, will take the stage at Paris-Nord Villepinte. The side by side exhibitions promise to be better than ever with more international exhibits.

In between we will be at HI Europe, the health food ingredients show, this year to be held in Frankfurt from 14-16 November. Watch our diary and news pages for more details. See you at the shows.

Anuga FoodTec, Cologne
April 2006 - Food & Drink Technology and Dairy Industries International reported a highly successful week at processing and packaging exhibition Anuga FoodTec, held in Cologne in early April. “It was an exciting exhibition, and all the right people were there,” said F&DT editor Lynda Hewitt. “It was a truly international show, highlighting the technical achievements of both the processing and packaging sectors.”
“Liquid filling and packaging were the focus of the show from a dairy perspective,” commented Suzanne Christiansen, editor of DII. “We saw some interesting refinements of existing dairy machinery, along with a raft of new innovations.” Both magazines will include highlights from Anuga FoodTec in their May 2006 editions.
